The Kitimat River has resident Dolly Varden, resident Rainbow and Cutthroat trout. Our Cutthroat are searun and are enhanced by the Kitimat Hatchery.
The resident trout population can be caught all year long but the Cutthroat trout fishery is the most popular. Cuttroat trout in the Kitimat River can reach 4 to 5 lbs.
Cutthroat trout migrate into the Kitimat River in late August and September and stay in the Kitimat River System over the winter. Trout is very good into October and November when the weather conditions and river levels allow. When Kitimat has received mild winters trout fishing has been outstanding. Typical spring weather will improve Trout fishing and is more predictable to schedule.
